Spanish I (Bob Jones/Rosetta Stone/AMSCO)

Prerequisite: 9th graders – A in 8th grade English

Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12

The Spanish I course covers fundamentals of grammar including oral reading, dialogues, translations, Scripture verses, greetings and introductions, simple questions and answers, shopping and much more. In this beginning book students learn how to ask and answer questions, give and follow directions, purchase items, make small talk, and present the gospel. Rosetta Stone is integrated into the curriculum to provide reinforcement of conversational Spanish. Rosetta Stone is designed to build a foundation of fundamental Spanish vocabulary and essential language structure. Students gain the confidence to begin to learn and speak Spanish. 

 

Spanish II (Bob Jones/Rosetta Stone/AMSCO)

Prerequisite: Acceptable performance in Spanish I

Eligibility: 10, 11, 12

In the Spanish II course the students learn to communicate at an intermediate level with Hispanics in a store, a bank, an airport, a hotel, a doctor's office, an auto shop, and on the mission field. Grammar, pronunciation, spelling, writing, listening, talking, verb tenses, and moods are emphasized in a variety of exercises. The continued integration of Rosetta Stone encourages students to navigate their surroundings in Spanish as they build on the vocabulary and essential language structure in Level 1. Students learn to talk about their environment such as giving and getting directions, telling time, dining out, basic social interactions and much more.

  

Spanish III/Spanish IV (Bob Jones/Rosetta Stone)

Prerequisite: Acceptable performance in preceding Spanish course; teacher recommendation

Eligibility: 11, 12

The Spanish III course further develops students' mastery of vocabulary, oral communication skills, and grammatical structure with a special focus on verb forms. The text features true stories and letters from missionaries in Spanish-speaking countries. The student text teaches the language as well as the culture. Spanish IV involves a more in-depth vocabulary study as well as a more advanced level of reading and writing of the Spanish language. The integration of Rosetta Stone at this level helps students develop their command of the language. From the simple to the complex, they gain the confidence to share their ideas and opinions in Spanish. Students develop the conversational skills to plan adventures, care for their health and move abroad. They talk about government, work, movies, family, and more. Students learn to fully express your ideas 

and opinions in Spanish.
