ART

The Art program is designed to help students acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to express their talents through art.  This process will encourage the development of their perception, judgment, creativity and imagination.  The students will learn basic art concepts through a progression of age appropriate projects, using a wide variety of media.

BAND

Students will learn the fundamental skills needed to play in a band setting.  The teacher will develop the student as a musician, through practice and by playing a wide variety of music, to help the student perform to the best of his/her ability.  This course is offered to fifth grade only.

COMPUTER (TECHNO – KIDS)

The Computer course is designed to develop computer skills at the early age of kindergarten five.  Elementary Computer is a building block that goes through the fifth grade.  Computer is a resource lab that reinforces the students’ knowledge for every grade level. In Kindergarten, students are introduced to educational computer games that build motor and analytical skills.  They will also begin doing basic keyboarding.  Students in 1st through 5th grades undertake a series of projects that teach various computer skills and programs while learning facts that will support their overall education.  Each project is designed to allow the students to work in cooperation with other students in doing research on the Internet, documenting their findings in databases they create, typing their results (word processing) and sharing their results in multi-media presentations.

LIBRARY

In the Library students are introduced to the world of books. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through second grade have the opportunity to check out books weekly.  They may choose from picture books, early readers, beginning chapter books, non-fiction books and biographies.  Students in third through fifth grades learn how to locate a book using computer software cataloging system. Weekly check out encourages students to choose a variety of books throughout the school year.

MUSIC

In the Elementary Music program, the students are exposed to a wide range of music including Classical, Jazz and other types of Contemporary Music, World Music, Folk songs, Hymns and Spiritual Songs, as well as an extensive introduction to music history.  The students experience and create music with un-pitched instruments, recorders and mallet instruments.  Third and fourth grade students also present a full-length musical drama each spring.  The goal of the elementary program is for students to sing on pitch and read basic music notation by the time they finish fourth grade in preparation for joining band or choir in middle school.

SPANISH

The Spanish program in the elementary is designed to give the students a familiarity with the Spanish language. Each year, students will review past lessons before continuing to advance in preparation for high school Spanish.
